First and foremost, I want to say thank you to all who supported and voted for me in the last election. The votes spoke of what you wanted; I do not intend to disappoint.
The challenges we face this year are going to be many. Your E-board has set goals to bring this union back together and most importantly to stand as one united membership. Please look for more opportunities to meet your local officers. Look for opportunities for you and your family to be involved. If you don’t know who your mobilizers are, please see a steward or your VP. This new age of communication brings on new challenges of getting the word out to our members, so please make sure the local has a personal e-mail address for you. Look for our new reinvented website. We are listening to you; we want the lines of communication to be open, by all available means.
I am excited, perhaps overly, about the Union Movement. We are at the perfect time right now to bring your voice to the workforce. It has never been more important to have a democratic workforce. The people are being pinned against each other. Labor is fighting with labor. We are being told CEOs need multi-million dollar bonuses and million dollar salaries as the company fails; all the while the workforce is taking a pay cut. Enough is enough. The union is getting its voice back. The workforce needs real leaders; the union needs its members now more than ever.
I hope to keep my arena and fellow members in the loop on all happenings within your local. I hope that while you ask for the union to give to you, you also give back by showing up and becoming informed. If the complaint is communication and all efforts are being made to communicate with you, please take advantage. Keep your local on its toes and abreast with what you want and need. Also, realize it is about everyone, and so you too will be called upon to help out when you can.
We are a family and we are UNION.
In Unity,
